Comparison Of GhostBed And Purple Mattress 2021

Researching a variety of brands and models is the first step to buying a mattress. You can choose from hundreds of beds thanks to the online mattress market. Comparison shopping is a great way to compare the performance, pricing, and construction of different mattresses. We will be comparing GhostBed and Purple, which are two of the most popular bed-in-a box mattress companies in the country.

GhostBed was first launched by Natures Sleep in 2015. GhostBed, the brand’s flagship foam mattress, was first launched in 2015. Since then, GhostBed has produced three more mattress models. GhostBed Luxe is another all-foam mattress model. It features layers of phase-change material as well as gel-infused foam to promote cooling. For a perfect balance of support and conforming, the GhostBed Flex hybrid model features multiple layers of memory foam over a core with a pocketed coil support. The company’s latest model, GhostBed 3D Matrix, features a special gel-polymer comfort layer for enhanced temperature control and support.

After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Purple opened its doors to the public in 2015. Purple Grid is a comfort layer of hyperelastic polymer material. It conforms to the body and doesn’t absorb too much heat. The support core is high-density polyfoam. Purples later mattresses were designed using the Purple Grid and pocketed-coil support systems. Introduced in was the Purple Hybrid. The Purple Hybrid Premier is the company’s latest model. It comes in two thickness/firmness options.

While there are some similarities between the Purple and GhostBed mattress options, there are also important differences. Continue reading to find out how these brands compare with respect to mattress construction, performance, pricing, delivery options and return policies.

Size And Weight Options

When choosing a mattress, size should be your primary consideration. There are six sizes available for most beds today. There are three sizes: the twin, twinXL and full. The queen, king and California king are designed for two or more people. Your budget, your bedroom space, and your height (as well as your partner) should all be considered when deciding on the size of your bed.

Also, think about the ideal mattress profile. Some prefer to sleep on a thinner mattress that is closer to the ground. Others prefer a thicker mattress with lots of cushioning and support layers.

Last but not least, weight is an important factor. GhostBed and Purple, which ship mattresses in a box to your door, require you to bring the box with you to set it up. Your mattress will need to be supported by a foundation, frame or other support system. Some mattresses can hold less weight.

Below are the details on GhostBed and Purple mattress sizes. Some models can be ordered in a split-king size, which is an extra large size that’s specifically made for couples with adjustable beds.

Both Purple and GhostBed offer many thicknesses and sizes, but each brand has its limitations. For instance, the GhostBed 3D Matrix is not available in full or twin sizes, which leaves less options for single-sleepers. The Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier models are not available in twin sizes. However, both can be ordered in full size.

These mattresses can be quite heavy, even the most lightweight, the GhostBed flagship, due to its latex layer. It is likely that you will need help lifting and transporting all these mattresses. If this happens, be sure to ask a friend or roommate for assistance.

When buying a mattress, it is important to research the design specifications. Today’s mattresses typically have three main components: a comfort layer that provides surface-level cushioning, a transitional level to protect your body from excessive sinkage, and a support layer to stabilize the whole bed.

These components have an impact on the price of the mattress, its durability, cost and performance in terms of temperature control, pressure relief and edge support.

We will take a closer look at each layer in all GhostBed or Purple mattresses.

GhostBed

The flagship GhostBed measures 28 cm thick and is made with a comfort layer from synthetic latex, a transitional layer memory foam, and a high density foam support core. It has a medium firm feel. The mattress has a medium firm feel. The memory foam is infused with cooling gel to prevent it from absorbing too much heat. The GhostBed is very cool to sleep on.

GhostBed Luxe is 33 cm in profile with a medium feel. It’s slightly thicker than the flagship GhostBed and slightly softer than its predecessor. The Luxe starts with a layer PCM (phase-change material), which absorbs heat from the body until it reaches a specific temperature. It then keeps that temperature throughout the night. The mattress stays cool regardless of how hot it feels. A comfort layer of gel-infused memory, a transitional layer made of responsive polyfoam and a support core of high-density polyfoam are some of the other features of this mattress. The Ghost Ice cover fabric provides additional cooling and softness by adding an inch of memory foam to the cover.

GhostBed Flex also has a cooling fabric cover and two layers of memory foam comfort. The transitional layer is made up of latex-like, responsive polyfoam. The Flex feels medium-firm, similar to the flagship bed. This means that you will feel more support and less contouring. The support core is made up of 22 cm pocketsed coils that are reinforced with high-density, base foam. These coils give the beds an extremely responsive feel and provide excellent edge support. The Flex is 33 cm in total.

The GhostBed 3D Matrix, which is also a hybrid model, is another example. The top layer of the GhostBed 3D Matrix mattress is made of gel-polymer material. This provides strong support and keeps the surface cool. Comfort layers are made of responsive polyfoam and gel memory foam. The 3D Matrix, like the Flex, offers exceptional support and a medium feel.

The base layer is 22 cm thick and contains pocketed coils. These coils are bolstered with top and bottom layers made of high-density foam. The model is 30 cm in thickness.

Purple

Purple Grid Comfort Layer was first introduced to the flagship Purple Mattress. This is a hyperelastic polymer material that has been molded into a grid-shaped shape. The Purple Grid is very similar in appearance to the GhostBed 3D Matrix’s gel-polymer layer. Both materials provide excellent cooling and support. The comfort layer is 5 cm thick. Purple Mattress also has transitional and support layers made of high-density, medium-firm polyfoam. It is 24 cm thick making it Purple’s thinnest mattress.

Purple Hybrids also have a 5 cm Purple Grid. This is complemented by a transitional layer of polyfoam and a core of pocketed coils. Although the Purple Grid promotes breathability, the Purple Hybrids coils circulate air currents to maintain temperature control. You won’t feel any sinkage while sitting or sleeping on the edges of the mattress due to the coils. Purple Hybrid measures 28 cm in thickness and is considered medium-firm.

Two designs are available for the Purple Hybrid Premier. The Purple Hybrid Premier 30 cm model has an 8 cm Purple Grid layer. It also includes transitional polyfoam, a pocketed coil system and transitional polyfoam. The mattress has a medium firm feel. The Hybrid Premier 33 cm features a 10cm Purple Grid and the same transitional support components as its counterpart (30 cm). The Purple’s most comfortable and thickest mattress, this mattress has a medium feel. The 33 cm Hybrid Premier mattress has a softer feel and is more effective at absorbing motion. However, it doesn’t provide as much edge support as the Purple hybrid 28 cm and 30 cm models.

Purple mattresses come with a top-cover made of a mix of spandex, viscose and polyester. The fabric is very soft and stretchy and the viscose provides breathability. A slip-proof bottom protector made from 100 percent polyester is also included in the cover.

In-Depth Ratings

Let’s now compare GhostBed and Purple mattresses in terms of their performance ratings. Each mattress is evaluated to determine how it performs in various categories, such as motion isolation, temperature neutrality and pressure relief. We also use reviews from verified mattress owners to generate performance ratings. These ratings will help customers decide if a mattress is right to them based on their personal preferences and needs.

Below are the full ratings for all GhostBed models. Let’s first explain the meaning of each category.

DurabilityMost mattresses should be replaced within six to eight year of purchase. Most mattresses need to be replaced due to loss of support, excessive sagging or deep sinkage along its edges. Memory foam and polyfoam tend to be less durable than other mattresses materials. Latex, however, is more durable and lasts longer. Coil beds tend to last longer than those with latex or foam support cores.

Motion Isolation
A responsive mattress will allow you to feel motion transfer between your partner and yourself when the person moves around or changes their position. Many mattresses have thick comfort layers that absorb and isolate movement from the rest of the mattress, which can reduce nighttime disturbances for couples. Solo sleepers don’t have to worry as much about motion isolation as those who share a bed with a partner.

Sex
Couples agree that responsive mattresses with moderate conforming are the best for sex. You and your partner will be able to move freely on a springy surface, while contouring gives you traction to keep in a fixed place. Edge support is also important. You won’t be able use the entire mattress if the mattress is weak around the perimeter. Coil beds can creak and squeak during sex while all-foam or all-latex mattresses are quieter.

Temperature neutrality
Mattresses can have thick layers that trap heat and absorb it, making them feel too warm. This can cause discomfort for anyone, but it is especially problematic for those who are already hot.

Others beds are made with materials that allow for temperature control. There are ventilated latex comfort layers and foam comfort layers that funnel air to your surface, coil systems that encourage steady airflow through the interior, and breathable covers fabrics. As you are more likely to feel the comfort layers, and less airflow, exceptional soft beds can be hot to sleep on.

Pressure reliefA mattress must be able to relieve pressure by providing support for the spine, cushioning the body and supporting the midsection. Your body type will determine which mattress is best for pressure relief. Firmer mattresses can cause pressure points to form and are not recommended for people who weigh less than 60 kg. People who are heavier than 104kg may require a firmer mattress to maintain their body’s alignment. Otherwise, they might feel more pressure in their shoulders and lower backs.

Off-gassing
Unboxing mattresses can cause off-gassing smells. Foam mattresses emit the strongest odors. This is because they contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are tiny particles that have a chemical odor. Latex is also known for its rubbery, but lighter, smell. While most mattresses lose their initial offgassing smell and smell after a few days, some mattresses may still have these smells for up to a week.

Mobility made easy
If the mattress is extremely soft or plush, you might have trouble moving around on the bed. This is especially true if your body weight exceeds 104kg. Sturdy transitional and support materials will keep your body in a more level plane, which makes it easier to move around. A supportive mattress will make it easier to change your sleeping position.

Edge Support
If you are seated along the edges of most mattresses, they sink to a significant extent. The steel coils in innersprings and hybrids offer strong bounceback to prevent your mattress from sinking too far. Mattresses that have latex or foam support layers can sink more than normal. This can make it difficult to get on the bed and reduce your security when you sleep near the edges.

Sizing And Prices

Many mattress buyers will be concerned about the price. A mattress’s price is often determined by its materials. All-foam and innerspring mattresses are the most economical and can be found in queen sizes.

The average price range for all-latex models and hybrids is higher than that of a queen.

Price is also affected by size. Twins, fulls and twin XLs are almost always less expensive than queens and California kings. Mattress thickness is another factor. High-profile mattresses have more layers and are more expensive than those with shorter sides.

You will likely pay less online for a mattress than if you buy it in a store. Brick-and-mortar sellers charge higher to cover the overhead costs of running a store or employing a sales staff. Online brands don’t have to pay the same overhead as brick-and-mortar sellers, since they operate fewer locations. They can charge less for mattresses and other products.

Below are the prices for all GhostBed or Purple mattresses in every size.

These tables show that prices for Purple and GhostBed mattresses vary greatly. Each brand offers luxury, budget-friendly, and mid-range models.

In most sizes, the flagship GhostBed model and Purple share very similar prices. These models are best if you have a tight budget or prefer the feel and comfort of a foam-based mattress.

The pricing structure for the GhostBed Flex as well as Purple Hybrid is similar. These models are more expensive than the average hybrid mattress, but they are still affordable. These beds are recommended if you have the budget for hybrids but don’t want to spend more than average.

Both brands also offer high-end mattresses. All three GhostBed Luxe, GhostBed 3D Matrix and Purple Hybrid Premier models can be quite expensive. These three mattresses are worth considering as a long-term investment due to their superior design and performance in multiple areas.

Be sure to add delivery fees and return fees to the price of a mattress when calculating its cost.

We will now discuss the details of each brand’s shipping, return and warranty policies in the next section.(21-night minimum)

Shipping

GhostBed offers free ground shipping via FedEx to all 50 states. You will need to pay a delivery fee if you live in Alaska or Hawaii. Customers usually receive their mattress within 2-5 business days of placing an order. Purple offers ground shipping free of charge within the United States. However, standard ground delivery fees for Alaska or Hawaii are lower than for the rest. Purple also ships to Canada.

GhostBed and Purple both offer White Glove delivery. This includes a scheduled delivery time, in-home assembly and the removal of old mattresses upon request. GhostBed customers pay White Glove shipping costs for up to two items. This means that you can have a mattress, new foundation, or both delivered at once. Purple customers pay a flat fee for White Glove shipping when they order the Purple Mattress and Purple Hybrid. White Glove shipping is available for those who reside within the United States and have selected the Purple Hybrid Premier. Purple offers overnight and expedited shipping to all 50 States for an additional charge.

GhostBed and Purple mattresses can be shipped standard ground. They are compressed and vacuum-sealed and packed in a small box. You will receive the package at your door. White Glove delivery means that the mattress is not compressed for shipping. You (or another adult) must be present at your home to receive the couriers.

Returns

Online mattress companies don’t have brick-and-mortar locations. They offer sleep trials that allow customers to try out the mattress for a specified time before making a decision on whether they want to keep it or return.

The majority of sleep trials last at most 90 nights.

GhostBed offers a free 101-night trial. To receive a full refund, you must use the mattress at least 30 times. GhostBed will issue a refund less any delivery charges and arrange for the collection of the mattress at your home by couriers. The mattress can be removed and donated to charity or recycled. GhostBed also offers the option to exchange your mattress for a different model. GhostBeds’ trial is free of charge and there are no exchange or return fees.

The return policy for Purples is the same. Purple offers a 100-night trial, with a 21-night break-in period. If you aren’t satisfied with the mattress, you can return it to them. Purple offers full refunds on all returns. Purple mattresses can be exchanged for a different model. This will allow you to exchange your Purple mattress for another model.

Warranty

Manufacturers are liable for any manufacturing or physical defects in mattresses. Nearly all mattresses today have a warranty of at least 10 year.

The GhostBed has a 20-year warranty. Flex, Luxe and 3D Matrix have 25-year warranties. These warranties can be partially prorated. GhostBed will pay all costs for replacement or repair of your mattress if it develops a defect within the first 10 year. The prorated coverage begins in year 11. This means that you will pay a percentage to replace your mattress. This is the prorated schedule:

  • The flagship GhostBed will cost you 5 percent for each year, starting in year 11. You’ll be paying 55 percent (1 x 5%)). You pay 60% in year 12, and so forth.
  • Between years 11-14, the Flex, Luxe and 3D Matrix will cost you 5 percent per year. The percentage will rise in increments of 4 percent in years 16-20, and 1 percent in years 21-25.
  • Purple mattress warranties are structured differently. These warranties last for 10 years and are non-prorated. This means that you will not have to pay any shipping charges or fees to have your mattress replaced or repaired if there is a problem. The mattress cover for Purple mattresses comes with a two-year warranty to protect against material defects.

GhostBed and Purple warranties cover the same defects, which guarantee free replacements or repairs. These include body impressions measuring 3 cm deep or more, sagging or body impressions and other physical defects that can lead to premature mattress deterioration. Other problems, such as abuse, improper foundation support, and changes in comfort preferences, will not be covered by either warranty.
